New Tools New Jewels!

A couple of months ago I suddenly developed an interest in stamped metal jewellery. After reading Lisa Niven Kelly's book "Stamped Metal Jewelry" I went on a spending spree and bought myself some metal stamps, a disc cutter, hammers, a dapping set, sheet copper and Sterling Silver and hole punch pliers!
I also managed to get a security stop put on my debit card due to all the online purchases I was making but a quick phone call to the bank soon sorted that out - very embarrassing when you're trying to pay for your shopping in Tesco!

 So armed with my new toys and after teaching myself how to rivet I've been making some new jewellery. I've discovered I love circle designs and abstract holes and I have a bit of a leaning towards the geometric. I haven't gone down the stamped names on bits of metal route yet, I know it's very popular but it doesn't fill me with much creative joy to be honest, I prefer to let my imagination run free!

Commission #

Last week I received a commission from Kaz of Cheeky Cherub Designs for a pair of earrings and a pendant using Kaz's own beautiful Lampwork beads. Karen has bought several pairs of earrings from me recently and wanted a spiral design in Sterling Silver to go with her Lampwork lentils.

They duly arrived in the post plus a pair of gorgeous green lentils just for me!

This photo doesn't really do them justice ~ they are really gorgeous!

I posted them to Kaz today and she is going to take them to the 2010 Flame Off this Friday and Saturday.

How long have you been making jewellery?
Not long at all! I started selling it to my friends little over 2 months ago.

What made you start?
My friend sent me a link to a site selling charms, this made me think about making some extra money selling jewellery. This then expanded to selling on my website!

Have you taken any jewellery-making classes or are you self-taught?
I have never taken jewellery making classes, I am completely self taught!

What made you decide to make your style of jewellery rather than the more classic type?
My style of jewellery is based on something I would like and buy! I do think about the fact that 'It's not what you want, its what other people want' but I have a very quirky sense of fashion (and jewellery!) and this is what came out of it!

Where do you buy your jewellery-making supplies? Online or locally?
I buy my supplies all online.

Where do you sell your jewellery? Is it just online or do you ever do craft fairs, sell locally?
I sell my jewellery online at Joelleabelle and am yet to do a craft fair and I haven't yet found a local one, although I would love to do one in the future.
